From July 6 to 14, 2023, the Head of the Intellectual Property Office of the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Armenia participated in the annual sessions of the Madrid Union and the Patent Cooperation Treaty within the framework of the 64th Series of Meetings of the Assemblies of the Member States of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).

Within the framework of the General Assembly, a meeting was held with Habib Asan, Director of the Division of Transitional and Developed Countries of WIPO. During the meeting they discussed the program of activities to be implemented in the Republic of Armenia jointly with WIPO and with the support of WIPO for a period of 2 years.

The discussion was held also around the topics of the development strategy of the intellectual property sector and the directions, terms and action plan of the support provided by WIPO for their implementation, as well as issues aimed at the development of the national IP system. For this purpose, agreements were reached on raising awareness, holding joint events, and supporting the translation of WIPO educational materials.

Parties involved agreed upon to organize a workshop on "Preservation and Protection of Geographical Indications" in the Republic of Armenia with the support of WIPO in 2024.
