On July 8, 2024, within the framework of conferences of the 65th meetings of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), the WIPO General Director had a bilateral meeting with the delegation of the Republic of Armenia.

WIPO General Director Daren Tang, Deputy General Director for Regional and National Development Mr. Hasan Kleib, Director of Transition and Developed Countries Division Habib Asan, Ambassador of the Republic of Armenia Andranik Hovhannisyan and the Head of the Intellectual Property Office Kristine Hambaryan were present at the meeting.

During the meeting, issues of development of IP development strategy were discussed. Darren Tang offered WIPO's support in implementing the measures under the Intellectual Property Strategy.

D. Tang confirmed H. Kleib's participation in the event titled "Protection of Geographical Indications" organized jointly with the Office of Intellectual Property and WIPO, which is planned to be held in Yerevan in November 2024.

The Head of the IP Office presented the developments of the cooperation between the WIPO and the Republic of Armenia. In particular, she noted that 25 specialists are being trained by the WIPO Academy for two years from 2023 through online courses. In this regard, she emphasized the issue of developing appropriate educational materials in the Armenian language.

Issues related to the protection of IP rights were also discussed. D. Tang suggested conducting trainings among the representatives of the RA law enforcement agencies who are responsible for preventing violations of IP rights. Training will also be organized for judges.

WIPO General Director expressed WIPO's unconditional support to all the issues raised.

At the end of the meeting, the Ambassador of Armenia once again confirmed the invitation of the General Director to visit the Republic of Armenia.
