On May 13, 2026, a three-day workshop on geographical indications and trademarks dedicated to strengthening the IP registration and examination practices, jointly organized by the Intellectual Property Office of the Ministry of Economy of the RA and the European Union Intellectual Property Office, commenced in Yerevan. The workshop is being implemented within the framework of the “EU4IP” project funded by the European Union and implemented by the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO). The goal of the project is to promote and strengthen the protection of intellectual property rights in the Republic of Armenia. During the two years of the project, it is planned to implement events, meetings, workshops aimed at developing the sector, as well as reforms of the legislative framework.

The purpose of the workshop is to discuss the current state of geographical indications and trademarks rights in the Republic of Armenia, as well as to present and exchange leading European practices while assessing the possibilities for their application in Armenia.

Opening remarks at the workshop were delivered by Kristine Hambaryan, Head of the Intellectual Property Office, Frank Hess, Head of the Cooperation Section of the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Armenia, and a representative of the EUIPO. During the three-day workshop, presentations will be delivered by representatives of the EUIPO, the European Union and the Armenian experts on geographical indications, the EUIPO trademark expert, and a representative of the Patent Office of the Republic of Latvia. Participants in the workshop include chief specialists of the Trademark and Geographical Indications Examination Department of the Intellectual Property Office, patent attorneys, and representatives of the Ministry of Economy, the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of the Republic of Armenia, and other interested agencies.
